It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of BARDOC Chief Executive, and Trustee of Homeless Friendly, Vicky Riding.

 6th April 2022

Vicky has paid a huge contribution to the health of people in the region, especially the homeless.

Vicky, who was 51, passed away peacefully following a short illness. She had been with BARDOC since 1996, preserving its longevity and turning it into an innovative provider of 24/7 care for patients in the Greater Manchester region.

Vicky was also pivotal in creating Homeless-Friendly, becoming a Trustee of the charity, ensuring Bury was the first borough to pledge to be a part of it, and supporting the world’s first COVID-19 vaccination clinic for rough sleepers. She was also a fervent and active supporter of other local health charities.

A spokesperson for Homeless-Friendly, said:

Vicky’s proud legacy is one of professionalism in all that she did, a leadership approach that always brought others with her, and a drive to make sure everyone received the same quality healthcare. At the heart of all these qualities was an obvious compassion for others. She will be greatly missed.

Dr. Bracegirdle, Chair of BARDOC said:

It is with great sadness that I have been informed of BARDOC’s CEO, Vicky Riding’s death.

I have known Vicky since 1996 when she first joined BARDOC, through good times and challenges, fulfilling a variety of roles culminating in being appointed as CEO.

Throughout that time she has been an innovative, forthright, and inspiring leader – committing a huge amount both personally and professionally to BARDOC, our patients, and staff, with particular reference to the provision of medical support to those who are homeless.

My overriding memory will be how she inspired and supported others to be their best, develop and grow.

Dr. Zahid Chauhan, OBE, BARDOC Deputy Chief Executive and Founder of Homeless Friendly said:

Vicky will never be forgotten, she will always remain with us in our thoughts and prayers. We will continue the journey of compassionate selfless support for others which she started.

Thank you Vicky for everything you have done, our thoughts are with her family, friends, and colleagues in this difficult time.

Vicky’s children Rebecca and Jack said:

We are proud of what mum  has achieved with her work in and out of BARDOC and extremely proud of her legacy she is leaving behind

As per Vicky’s wishes, we will not be taking flowers.  She requested any donations to be made to her charity Homeless Friendly.

Or by Bank Transfer:
Account Name – Homeless Friendly.
Account number – 43478168.
Sort code – 30-90-89

Rebecca and Jack would like to say a huge thank you to BARDOC for all the kind words and tributes shared in memory of their beautiful mum – Vicky. The messages received have been truly overwhelming and comforting to them.

They would like to invite all colleagues and friends to pay their respects, celebrate the life and cherish the memories of Vicky at her funeral.

The funeral will take place on Tuesday 26th April – 14.00 at Bolton Parish Church, Silverwell Street, Bolton, BL1 1PS.

Rebecca and Jack have said everyone is welcome.

Vicky would always tell me quietly, “I can’t do this” and then promptly do it, with such professionalism, passion, and compassion. Despite finding ourselves in some stressful situations, we had time to laugh with each other and that is what I will always treasure about knowing her. My condolences to her family, her friends and indeed the communities she served. Vicky set the bar high, and we are all going to miss her. But we will also remember the legacy and the love she left us.

Vicky was, and still is, someone that I look up to. Her glamours attire coupled with her ability to run a company without hesitation meant she was always a force to be reckoned with and her legacy will always be something that I admire; both in and out of work. She was the life of the party, the boss that you could rely on and the gorgeous aunty that you could look up to (mostly due to the height difference!). She will be greatly missed and never forgotten. Rest in Peace Vicky.

We worked together at BARDOC for many years and quickly became known by many as partners in crime as we took BARDOC from strength to strength expanding our work to serve our communities. I will always remember your quirky sayings, that laugh and post work day debriefs we used to have. We often supported each other through some challenging times both in and outside of work. You have left a true legacy and many, including myself have benefitted from your steadfast mentoring, support and leadership. A big advocate of giving people a chance, especially those from a disadvantaged background. I will miss you very dearly and am where I am today in part thanks to your support. Long live BARDOC and may it be an everlasting memory and legacy of how much you invested into the organisation to take it to where it is. I was deeply upset when I first heard that Vicky was so poorly and now this news. I am heartbroken. I had the privilege of working with Vicky for a number of years when I was at Bury CCG. What a lovely lady, compassionate, enthusiastic and professional. A real role model as a boss. She always had a ' can do' attitude or would say 'let's try it' when testing out something new. An approach i greatly appreciated. She rarely needed persuading, understood the importance of collaboration and more importantly knew what was the right thing to do for patients and the public. BARDOC is rightly proud of your legacy and I know your spirit will live on. Vicky, you were taken too young. But may you now rest in peace. My condolences to your own and your BARDOC family.

I don't really know what to write if i'm honest. I was hoping that if i ignored things, then maybe it just wouldn't be true. I have many a fond memory of you. From arguments that ended in laughter (sometimes), to watching you rap on karaoke just because you could. You pushed everyone to be better and you challenged me every single day. I'm thankful for not only the guidance you gave, but just you for being you. You were my friend and someone I always knew I could come to. Although at times I dreaded hearing those heals pounding towards my office. I would welcome that noise with open arms right now. Rest well, Vicky. Until we meet again. xxx

I am so sad today to hear that Vicky has passed. I remember her from when I initially joined BARDOC for a short time in the 'noughties', when we were at the the old site on Parsons Lane. I joined BARDOC 4 years ago and was interviewed by Vicky. At the time I thought it quite odd a CEO was interviewing for triage nurses. I learnt of her passion for the organisation. The last 2 years she has really driven BARDOC forward. Pivotal in the covid management. We need more leaders like her. I remember last year she wasn’t happy with something I had raised. She listened to me with her ‘open door’ policy and agreed with all the points I’d made. Her parting comment was - you get the out of hours not many people do. My only hope is that we can in time live up to what she has started, grown and move it further forward. To her family you have a daughter, mum and sister you can be truly proud of. Today is a sad day for all of us but this gives us an opportunity to carry on her work, her legacy.

Lots of love to her children and family at this sad time. She will be missed by all who loved and admired her. Will always say a little pray for you Vicky , Rebecca and Jack.

Vicky, my memories of you will never fade. We worked so closely for over 6 years and I learnt so much as a colleague and as your friend. I'm grateful for the opportunities you gave me and truly thankful I got to spend quality time with you more recently. When I think about you Vicky there are so many ways to describe you; a strong woman, determined, a fantastic mum, selfless, caring, passionate and truly one of a kind. I also know BARDOC ran through your veins, you gave it your all and made it known that patients came first and were always the priority. Everyone is so so proud of your achievements. You rest easy until I see you again when we can have a glass of wine and a good old chin wag! Sending my heartfelt condolences and love to Rebecca and Jack xxxx

I have known Vicky since when Bardoc was very first started. Looking back it is nothing less than amazing on Vickys achievements and how she has helped to build Bardoc of which she was very proud. She has gone too soon and will be sadly missed by all who loved and admired her including her Bardoc family. Rebecca and Jack - you must be so proud of your mum. Will always be in my prayers.

I was terribly sad to hear of Vicky's untimely passing. Having worked together at the Practice in the early 90s, I was incredibly proud of her achievements at BARDOC. Sincere condolences to her family and friends from all the staff at Stonehill.

Vicky was a remarkable person. Highly skilled and knowledgeable, she did not put herself forward or seek the limelight; her motivation came from the value of her work to the people whom BARDOC serves. She was not ever content with second best, she wanted BARDOC to be excellent at everything it did. But she also knew how to collaborate and how to build relationships, for example, she was instrumental in founding the GM urgent primary care alliance and indeed many other partnerships between provider organisations serving GM people. She was an exemplary leader. More than this, she was a kind, warm-hearted, humorous, intelligent person who created bonds of trust in others that that they will remember for the rest of their lives. For me, I count myself very fortunate to have known, respected, liked and cared about Vicky. My world is diminished by her loss yet I believe what she would have most wanted was for all of us to continue to promote the values that she believed in, values of kindness, fairness, excellence and healthcare for everyone whoever they may be and whatever the circumstances in life. May she rest in peace and may we continue what she stood for.

Its a sad day for BARDOC and all of us who knew Vicky. I have known Vicky since 1999 and always found her very helpful, approachable, respectful to colleagues and humble person. She has worked tirelessly all these years ( sometimes even drove doctors for home visits ) to improve the services of BARDOC. She has left great legacy behind her and will be missed immensely. Our thoughts are with all the family and friends at this difficult time but we can cherish what she achieved in such a short period and in young age. Whoever has worked in BARDOC will never forget Vicky and will always be remembered with good words. God Bless

I was so sad to hear of the very premature loss of our dear Vicky I had worked with her from 1996 and when she became CEO Bardoc I thoroughly enjoyed and valued our working relationship. Despite her unfounded lack in her ability she always delivered on the multitude of agendas that we worked on Her compassion was second to none and her skills at developing and advancing her relationships with clinicians and NHS management were immense She will be truly missed by so many Her legacy is second to none May you rest in heaven princess

I am so shocked and so very sorry for the passing of Vicky, my heart goes out to her family and friends. It has been very hard to continue working this week while holding back my emotions but, and rightly so, the patient's always come first. This was instilled in us throughout my 5 years working with her. She only ever seemed to think of others and her open door policy meant not just for patients but also for her workforce. She will be dearly missed XX
